So recently we have had one big battle with Jachin. He got a little cold, had a sore throat and then decided that drinking was no fun. He then started refusing to drink any fluids. He would go days where I'd give him a cup and he would grit his teeth and refuse. Nate and I had many days of frustration and then finally when I thought I could take it no more an idea came to me right before bed. So, I tried it the next day.
The next morning I woke up, made Jachin's breakfast, sat him in his chair and began. I gave him a few spoonfuls of cereal then offered him his cup. I waited until he drank and then we repeated the process. It worked! It was night and day difference.
That has been just the beginning. We do not feel that we have achieved the ultimate, by any means, but we are taking positive steps. He is now drinking and often very grateful for those sips of liquid. He is also learning "no". It was a long time coming but now when he goes toward the DVD player he will pause at the word "no". He sometimes still cannot resist the temptation and he touches it then goes to timeout but more often than not he will use the stand to stand up rather than pushing the DVD buttons. (Which is great because he started learning how to turn the DVD player off and on which is a pain when you are in the middle of watching a movie!)
