One thing I have really loved about living in China is how it stretches me to do things I would not do in America for the sheer fact of it not being necessary. Since living here I have learned to do alot of things because they aren't routinely done here. For example, I have learned to make many things homemade: cream of chicken soup, tortillas, lasagna noodles, spaghetti sauce, brownies, and alfredo sauce - just to name a few. I also get very ambitious. This is a post about that.
This picture is of the pillow cases that went on our couch pillows. Nate hated them so the other day I decided to go to the market to get someone to make covers. Unfortunately, when I reached the market there were only 3 vendors open and none of them had what I wanted so I did option 2. Option 2 was buy my own fabric and do it myself. So I did and two days later...

Here is the finished work----
Here is my attempt to make a homemade tiered cake for Maddy's 1st birthday. Here is step one - I made the platforms from cardboard, coated them in aluminum foil, baked the cakes (using pie pans, homemade yellow cake mix recipe from Betty Crocker, and the help of my good friend Kiera) and covered them until I could do part 2.
Step 2 was put the homemade icing on the bottom layer and then put the 2nd layer on top. Then I made little pillars to go in them to stack them. You can see the final product on my post for Maddy's birthday party.
