Maddy's EEG

This is more to keep family posted than for actually updating my blog -

Yesterday we went to the hospital for Maddy's EEG. They gave her a sedative, anally like Jachin, and once she was asleep I went into a room with like 4 other sets of Chinese people and I held Madeline while they used glue to put these sensors on Madeline's head. One fun thing was all the comments people had to seeing Madeline. People took pictures of her and kept saying how beautiful she was - the perks of having a blond hair, blue eyed kid. Life may be rough when we come back to the states! I guess her family will have to keep her ego up - hehe! Luckily they all stuck on the first try - on one one month old baby they had to pull them off and re-glue them because they weren't on correctly. We went into a second room after that and they plugged the machine in to the computer to make sure it was reading the information - all was good.

We came home and I took these:

She had wires all over her head and this goofy little stocking cap.
To the left is the battery pack that attached to her wires. I would sit her down and put a pillow between her and the pack so she wouldn't pull on it. This pack was stuck to some velcro and I had to pretty much wrap it around my neck whenever I carried her anywhere. We were attached.

They told me that she had to sleep with us which was hard because she doesn't sleep with us on a normal basis. In fact, Madeline loves sleeping by herself. She sleeps so well so I knew this day would be tricky. We napped together at 3, which went very well. She slept for a full 1 1/2 hours. When evening came I got everything prepared for me to go to bed early with her. They told me she couldn't rub her head against the bed or one of the sensors may come off so I needed to hold her. We settled down and she went to sleep fairly quickly. I was able to prop her up and read for a bit. I drifted off around 10 and had to readjust when my arm fell asleep. All was looking good, until 2 am.

Maddy woke up, realized she was in an odd place, and pretty much stayed awake till 4:30. She slept a little from 4:30-5:45. We were all three exhausted. I got up at 6:15, showered, got her ready and fed and then we headed back to the hospital to get them removed.

When we arrived at the hospital we went to a room where they took the pack out so they could see the results and then they gave us this syringe of fluid to help get the sensors off. They came off very quickly and the glued sensors weren't the problem but the medical tape they used to keep them in place was a little painful for her. She cried! We got them off, they said that the results would be in on Tuesday at 3, and then we left. So we are now just waiting. She still has glue in her hair. I tried to get it out, gave her a bath right when we got home, but there are still some remains. She is doing well and took a longer nap today to get caught up in the sleep she missed.

We'll keep ya posted...
