Loving Being a Mom

I am currently listening to the Mother's Day message from our church and my eyes are filling with tears as I am being encouraged by our pastor. If you are a mom, I would encourage you to read it. Go to this link: Summit Message on Mother's Day and choose the "Gospel Shaped Family Pt. 1" on 5/12/13. You won't regret it!

This message is encouraging me to write this blog that I have been wanting to post for awhile. When I became a mother 3 years ago I struggled with contentment. At the beginning Maddy slept so much so I often felt really lazy. I loved spending every waking moment with her and catching z's when she was sleeping. As the routine progressed, I found myself feeling bored and annoyed with the schedule I had set up. I wondered if there was worth in the mundaneness of being a mom. I lived each day from wake up to nap and then from nap to bedtime. There were moments of great joy, don't get me wrong, but with my task oriented personality I had a tendency to look forward to one event and when it came and didn't meet my unexpected standards, disappointment set in.

Fast forward 3 years and two kids with one on the way and by the grace of God, I wake up with a different story. I was laying in bed the other night and was thinking about how much I absolutely LOVE being a mom. The Lord has given me many opportunities to use my gifts outside the home and I find when those tasks are done I stop and think, "Man, I am so glad that is not my full time job!" It's those little moments when I just stop and watch my kids as little people and realize the blessing of them being little people. I know that days will continue to go up and down and that I will fail, but these little moments remind me how worth it each day is.

When Emma...
-points at what she wants and says, "please" with her little high pitched voice
-squeals and follows her daddy around the house with her arms outstretched because she loves him that much
-comes to me and says, "up" and snuggles with me on the couch
-plays with her big sister and asks her for help
-hides in her corner because she needs her alone time just like her daddy
-gives me a kiss
-says, "sing" when I put her to bed
-snuggles into your shoulder when you pick her up

When Maddy...
-experiences everything and always echos the amazement with "Mommy, look!"
-says 'tomorrow" like it will be filled with unimaginable fun
-gives me kisses and says "i love you"
-applauds me because I use the "big girl potty"
-knows our routine so much that she tells me what's next
-sings
-asks me if we can go play with friends
-sees people and says, "friends!"
-applauds herself when she puts pee-pee in the potty
-wakes up and says, "did you sleep?" and asks me questions about my night

It's those little moments that are blessings that keep me going. What moments remind you of your blessings?
